High-Quality Imaging in Low-Light Conditions: Demystifying Nighttime Surveillance Technology

Securing properties and assets often requires clear video surveillance, even in the most challenging low-light conditions. With a multitude of technologies available, selecting the right one can be daunting. In this article, we unravel the complexities of low-light surveillance technologies, providing you with actionable insights to enhance your nighttime monitoring capabilities.

StarVu Technology

In settings with some available lighting, finding a camera that produces usable video is straightforward. The real test comes in pitch-black environments. To meet this challenge, we offer two types of Starlight technology within our product lineup, each with distinct light sensitivity levels. Light sensitivity is measured in lux, a unit of illuminance. For reference, full daylight is 10,000 lux, a full moon provides 0.1 lux, a quarter moon emits 0.01 lux, and a moonless sky has a mere 0.001 lux of starlight.

Our entry-level StarVu option is the most cost-effective, delivering reliable low-light performance with visibility down to 0.005-0.009 lux, making it suitable for a range of dimly lit scenarios.

StarVu+ Technology

StarVu+ stands out as the top performer in the StarVu family, boasting the best low-light capabilities with visibility down to 0.001-0.004 lux. It excels in extremely dark settings, such as poorly lit or unlit areas. Notably, the PoE 2MP StarVu+ camera can achieve an impressive low-light illumination of 0.002 lux.

Warm-Light Color True Cameras

There are instances where discreet security is not a priority, and the use of warm-light LEDs can be advantageous. These cameras emit a warm glow within their field of view, enabling the capture of color images in darkness. They also feature an F1.0 large aperture lens, capable of gathering 2.5 times more light than an F1.6 aperture. The warm light serves a dual purpose, acting as a visual deterrent and providing security illumination.

Our latest innovation, the warm-light Color True camera, offers vibrant color details with its large aperture. The 4MP MXPoE model is equipped with warm-light LEDs and a large aperture, allowing for an illumination range of up to 30 meters. This makes it well-suited for locations with minimal lighting, such as construction sites and wooded areas. Intelligent illumination technology adjusts the LEDs based on ambient light levels, fine-tuning exposure time and LED intensity to prevent overexposure. Advanced image processing further reduces noise and smear, ensuring clear imagery.

Dual Lens Color True Cameras

For those concerned about light pollution from warm lights, dual-lens Color True cameras present an eco-friendly alternative. Even in the absence of artificial lighting, these cameras' innovative dual-lens design recreates color in the dark. One lens captures ambient brightness, while the other gathers color information, combining their data through advanced AI image algorithms to produce vivid images. With a photosensitivity increase of over 50% thanks to dual sensors, these cameras offer all-day color vision without contributing to light pollution, providing rich image details.

A Wide Array of Options

Our comprehensive selection of low-light surveillance solutions caters to installers and end-users with diverse needs. Whether you seek a cost-effective solution for clear black-and-white or color images or cutting-edge technology for color imaging in challenging light conditions, our cameras ensure that your surveillance is never left in the dark.
